Ticks
Bed bugs, fleas, and ticks all feed on the blood of humans and animals. They are serious pests that can infest your home in just a short time.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are small, oval, wingless insects. Bed bugs are sometimes mistaken for ticks or small cockroaches. Small blood spotting on mattresses and nearby furnishings is often a tell tale sign of an infestation.

In recent years, bed bugs have made a comeback in the United States. They are increasingly being encountered in homes, apartments, hotels, motels, shelters, dormitories, and modes of transport. International travel and immigration have undoubtedly contributed to the resurgence of bed bugs in this country.

Fleas

It is estimated that pet owners spend over one billion dollars a year controlling fleas. Fleas are parasites that feed directly on humans or other warm blooded animals. A flea can jump approximately 7 inches vertically and 14 inches horizontally. A skin reaction to a flea bite would be a slightly raised, red, itching spot.

Fleas usually require warm and humid conditions to develop, which makes Florida just about perfect for them. Fleas are attracted to body heat, movement, and carbon dioxide exhaled. Due to the flea life cycle, proper treatment requires more than one visit by a Hulett pest professional.

Ticks

Although ticks are commonly thought of as insects, they are actually arachnids like scorpions, spiders and mites. They are often found in grassy, brushy areas where they wait for a host to pass by. Their bite is not painful and often goes unnoticed.

Ticks are among the most efficient carriers of pathogens. They spread diseases such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Colorado tick fever, relapsing fever, and tularemia. Due to the tick life cycle, proper treatment requires more than one visit by a Hulett pest professional.
