Appearance:
House mice colors depend on their habitat. However, if indoors they will usually be dark gray with a light gray stomach. Outdoors they will usually be a sandy brown color. They have large ears and small eyes.
Size:
Range from 5 to 7 inches in length and weigh about ½ ounce
Behavior:
The House Mouse usually feeds on cereal grains, but it will eat other kinds of food. They are excellent climbers and have a keen sense of hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Droppings, fresh gnaw marks, and tracks indicate their presence.
Habitat:
The House mouse is found in and around homes and commercial structures, as well as in open fields and agricultural lands. They normally stay near a food source and establish a territory.
Medical and Economic Significance:
The House mouse can transmit pathogens that cause diseases such as salmonellosis. They contaminate food meant for humans, pets, and livestock. They also cause considerable damage to structures and property.
