Termite Damage

All too often, homeowners aren't aware that there's a termite issue until there's a full-blown infestation. It's important to know how to recognize the signs of termite damage and to understand the devastating impact that termites can have on your home. If you suspect you have termites contact Hulett for a free termite inspection.

Signs of Termite Damage:

There are two main kinds of termites: subterranean termites and drywood termites. One of the key signs of subterranean termite damage is the presence of mud tubes. Subterranean termites create these mud tubes from soil and termite droppings, and they're used as a tunnel from the soil to the wood. So if you find what looks like a small mud tunnel or small muddy streaks that travel up from the foundation of your home and across your interior or exterior walls, chances are you're looking at subterranean termite traffic.

Another sign of subterranean termite damage is discolored floors or walls, thanks to mud tunnel moisture – and the mud tunnels may not be visible, but may be inside these floors or walls. Does your floor appear spongy or saggy? Do your baseboards appear to be weak or easily broken? That may be due to termites. Another sign of a termite infestation is a wall or baseboard area that looks splintered or shaved. There may be a pile of wood grain around it. This may also be a sign of termites in the home. Discarded wings may be another sign of a termite infestation. (Termites discard their wings once a swarm of them takes flight.) Are you finding tiny pepper like pellets around baseboards, floors, window or door jams? Termites can cause extensive damage to your home, so if you have any questions about signs of termite damage in the home, Just call Hulett!

The Impact of Termites:

The impact of termite damage is intense and can be expensive if termites are left undetected. Researchers have found that the financial damage caused by termites is actually more expensive than damage caused by natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, or tornadoes. Termite damage in the home might cost anywhere from the hundreds to the tens of thousands of dollars. Finding termites early is the key to saving money, so be aware of any small changes in the structure of your home.

Don't let termites eat their way through your baseboards or your bank account! Your home is one of the most important investments you'll ever make. Protect it by calling for a professional Hulett inspection.
